A new dismountable and reusable microchip for electrophoretic separation coupled to amperometric detection was developed. For this purpose, a new home made three-microbands electrode system was developed and microfabricated based on screen-printing for the inclusion of graphite/polydimethylsiloxane (C-PDMS) composite in microchannels down to 30 mum width. The composition of the composite as well as the fabrication methodology were optimized for an easy handling and an optimized electrochemical behavior. The electrochemical characterization of this composite material was first performed in bulk format (disc-shaped electrode, 6 mm diameter). It was then transposed to the micrometric scale for its integration in an original glass-NOA81-PDMS microfluidic device allowing for reversible sealing. The microband electrodes were characterized by scanning electron microcopy and cyclic voltammetry, illustrating a good control of the microelectrode width. Then, the analytical performances of the C-PDMS composite microelectrodes were evaluated using Ru(NH3)6 3+ and FcMeOH as model electroactive molecules. The electrophoretic separation and quantitation of Ru(NH3)6 3+ were then performed in a background electrolyte made of hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride, leading to a LOD and a LOQ of 3.4 mumol L?1 and 11.3 mumol L?1, respectively. The re-openable NOA-based microdevice permits to regenerate the electrode surface by simply repositioning the microband on a new spot, allowing for robust analysis in a reusable system.

Formula: C12H3Fe. Catalysts allow a reaction to proceed via a pathway that has a lower activation energy than the uncatalyzed reaction. Introducing a new discovery about 1271-51-8, Name is Vinylferrocene

Isonicotinyl and pyrazinyl ferrocenyl-derived complexes were prepared using various hydrazides and ferrocenyl aldehydes. Three heterobimetallic complexes were also synthesized from the Schiff base-derived isonicotinyl ferrocene complex using various platinum group metal dimers based on ruthenium, rhodium and iridium. All complexes were evaluated in vitro for antimycobacterial and antiparasitic activity. Against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv, the platinum group metal complexes showed glycerol-dependent antimycobacterial activity. The antiplasmodial activities against the NF54 chloroquine-sensitive strain of Plasmodium falciparum of some compounds were moderate, while some complexes also showed promising activity against Trichomonas vaginalis. Incorporation of the ferrocenyl-salicylaldimine moiety resulted in enhanced antimicrobial activity compared to the non-ferrocenyl compound in some cases. The bimetallic iridium-ferrocene isonicotinyl complex exhibited superior antitrichomonal activity relative to its organic counterpart, isoniazid. Furthermore, all these compounds, when screened on several normal flora bacteria of humans, showed no effect on the microbiome, emphasizing the selection of these compounds for these pathogens. The promising antimicrobial activities of the complexes thus supports incorporation of ferrocene as part of existing antimicrobial therapies in order to alter their biological activities favorably.

In an Article, once mentioned of 1293-65-8

A series of thiophene tungsten Fischer carbene complexes of type [(CO)5W=C(OMe)R] (1, R = 2-Th; 4, R = fcthFc) and [(CO)5W=C(OMe)-R?-(OMe)C=W(CO)5] (2, R? = th; 5, R? = fcthfc) was synthesized for investigating low energy charge transfer interactions between the carbene substituents and the transition metal carbonyl fragment incorporating the thiophene heterocyclic system (Th = Thienyl; th = 2,5-thiendiyl; Fc = ferrocenyl; fc = 1,1?-ferrocenediyl). Electrochemical investigations were carried out on these complexes to get a closer insight into the electronic properties of 1, 2, 4 and 5. Typical electrode reactions could be found for the carbene reductions itself and for the tungsten carbonyl oxidation processes in all metal carbene complexes. However, for the thiophene complex 2 two well-separated one-electron reduction events were observed, suggesting an interaction of the Fischer carbene moieties in 2-, over the thiophene bridge. Reversible one-electron redox events for the ferrocenyl moieties in complexes 4 and 5 were also observed. During the UV-Vis-NIR spectroelectrochemical investigations typical low energy absorptions for the mixed-valent alpha,alpha?-diferrocenyl thiophene increment were found for these two complexes, as well as high energy NIR absorptions, which were attributed to metal-metal charge transfer transition between the tungsten carbonyl increment and the ferrocenyl units (complexes 4 and 5). Further infrared spectroelectrochemical studies reveal that the electronic interactions between the tungsten carbene and the ferrocenyl electrophores in the corresponding cationic species (4+, 42+, 5+, 52+) can be described with weakly coupled class II systems according to Robin and Day.

Therefore, this conceptually novel strategy might open impressive avenues to establish green and sustainable chemistry platforms. In my other articles, you can also check out more blogs about 1293-65-8

In a document type is Article, and a compound is mentioned, 1271-48-3, name is 1,1′-Ferrocenedicarboxaldehyde, introducing its new discovery.

The syntheses of ferrocene- and ruthenocene-functionalized tetraazamacrocyclic ligands and their corresponding transition metal complexes are described. Reaction of N,N?-bis(2-aminoethyl)-1,3-propanediamine (2,3,2-tet) with 1,1?-diformylferrocene and 1,1?-diformylruthenocene produces the ligands fcmac and rcmac in 81-85% yield. Examination of their CuII, NiII, CoII, ZnII and Fe II/III complexes by IR, UV/Vis, EPR and Moessbauer spectroscopy as well as by electrochemical studies suggests electronic communication between the two metal centers of each complex. The molecular structure of [Cu II(fcmac)(FBF3)]BF4, determined by X-ray structure analysis, is reported and shows that the distance between the two metals is 4.54 A. Stability constants, determined by potentiometric titration, indicate that the copper(II) complexes are of similar stability as those with unfunctionalized tetraazamacrocyclic ligands (e.g. cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane); stability constants of cobalt(II) complexes are about 2 log units smaller, those of nickel(II) and zinc(II) complexes are reduced by more than 10 log units. This selectivity is discussed on the basis of the structural studies. Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2005.

Ferritin is a giant protein composed of 24 subunits which is able to sequester up to 4500 atoms of iron. We proposed two kinds of heme binding sites in mammalian ferritins and provided direct evidence for peroxidase activity of heme-ferritin, since there is the possibility that “ferritin-heme” systems display unexpected catalytic behavior like heme-containing enzymes. In the current study, peroxidase activity of heme-bound ferritin was studied using TMB1, l-DOPA, serotonin, and dopamine, in the presence of H2O2, as oxidant substrate. The catalytic oxidation of TMB was consistent with first-order kinetics with respect to ferritin concentration. Perturbation of the binding affinity and catalytic behavior of heme-bound His-modified ferritin were also documented. We also discuss the importance of the peroxidase-/nitrative-mediated oxidation of vital molecules as well as ferritin-induced catalase inhibition using in vitro experimental system. Uncontrollable “heme-ferritin”-based enzyme activity as well as up-regulation of heme and ferritin may inspire that some oxidative stress-mediated cytotoxic effects in AD-affected cells could be correlated to ferritin-heme interaction and/or ferritin-induced catalase inhibition and describe its contribution as an important causative pathogenesis mechanism in some neurodegenerative disorders.

Modifying the reactivity of substrates by encapsulation is a fundamental principle of capsule catalysis. Here we show an alternative strategy, wherein catalytic activation of otherwise inactive quinone “co-factors” by a simple Pd2L4 capsule promotes a range of bulk-phase, radical-cation cycloadditions. Solution electron-transfer experiments and cyclic voltammetry show that the cage anodically shifts the redox potential of the encapsulated quinone by a significant 1 V. Moreover, the capsule also protects the reduced semiquinone from protonation, thus transforming the role of quinones from stoichiometric oxidants into catalytic single-electron acceptors. We envisage that the host-guest-induced release of an “electron hole” will translate to various forms of non-encapsulated catalysis that involve other difficult-to-handle, highly reactive species.

Therefore, this conceptually novel strategy might open impressive avenues to establish green and sustainable chemistry platforms. In my other articles, you can also check out more blogs about 1293-65-8

Electrochemical experiments were carried out in a nanometer-sized cylindrical thin layer cell (TLC) formed by etching the surface of a disk-type platinum nanoelectrode (5- to 150-nm radius). Using high frequency ac voltage, the surface of such an electrode was etched to remove a very thin (? 1-nm-thick) layer of Pt. The resulting zeptoliter-scale cavity inside the glass sheath was filled with aqueous solution containing redox species, and the etched electrode was immersed in a dry (no external solution) pool of mercury to produce a TLC. Several approaches based on steady-state voltammetry and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) were developed to independently evaluate the electrode radius and the etched volume. The number of redox molecules in the TLC could be varied between one and a few hundred by changing its volume and solution concentration. In this way, the transition between a random and deterministic number of trapped molecules was observed. High quality steady-state voltammograms of ?1 molecules were obtained for different neutral and charged redox species and different concentrations of supporting electrolyte. The analysis of such voltammograms yields information about mass transfer, adsorption, electron transfer kinetics, and double-layer effects on the nanoscale.
